Take a deposit on a service

Ask for a deposit when a client books online, so a no-show costs them rather than you. Set per service, paid by card before the time is held.

Checked against the app on

A deposit is taken by card when the client books, and comes off the price on the day. It is set per service, because a £10 trim and a six-hour set of braids do not need the same one. Nothing is charged until the client has chosen a time and typed their details; the time is held for them while they pay.

Menu → the service → Edit → Deposit to book
  1. Connect Stripe first

Deposits are paid into your own Stripe account, not ours, and we take no cut of them. Go to Shop → Getting paid and connect it once. Until this is done, a service with a deposit still takes bookings, but without one, and the diary shows the deposit as money you did not collect.

  2. Open the service

Menu, tap the service, then Edit service.

  3. Set the amount

Under What it costs, fill in Deposit to book in pounds. Leave it blank for no deposit. Save.

What the client sees

When they reach the last step of booking they see the deposit, what is left to pay on the day, and your cancellation terms in one sentence. They can choose to pay the whole price now instead. The card is taken on our page, and the confirmation email shows the deposit as paid.

When it is refunded

Your cancellation window is set once for the shop, under Shop → Deposits and cancellation: how many hours before the appointment a client can still cancel free. A client who cancels in time gets the deposit back; one who cancels late, or does not turn up, does not. You can always refund by hand from the booking.
